My 5 star rating is for DD’s implementation of this gas block, not really the gas block itself. For the Mk12 gas block, I’d give maybe 3 stars—it gets the job done, but is unnecessarily bulky, especially the fat base, which makes it difficult to fit under rails/handguards which were not designed specifically for it (like DD’s own RIS II). The Mk12 is hardly “low profile” by modern standards. That having been said, it’s not DD’s fault the thing is so portly; they make it per Crane spec, and make it well. If you want a Mk12 gas block for a specific clone build, for example, or in an implementation where it’s extra bulk will fit (either outside the handguard, or under something like a RIS II), then the DD version should serve you well.
